Panel Discussion on Decarbonisation of the Built Environment at the Global Construction Leaders’ Summit

December 5, 2022, Dubai World Trade Centre

The UAE-UK Business Council launched its latest campaign on the Decarbonisation of the Built Environment at the Big 5 Global Construction Leader’s Summit in Dubai on 5 December. Our UK Co-Chair,  Lord Udny-Lister announced this during his Opening Remarks at a Panel Discussion in which UK and UAE industry leaders explored new innovations in sustainable construction, from the use of lower carbon materials to auditing the carbon footprint of an asset throughout its entire lifecycle, to the  value that circular economics and smart cities can bring to reducing the environmental impact of the sector. The panellists also emphasised the need to focus on sustainable alternatives within both existing and new build projects.

We will be coordinating a series of virtual meetings to continue this dialogue between UK and UAE industry leaders over the course of the next few months, as part of our CoP28 programme of activities. This will culminate in the launch of a White Paper on Decarbonisation of The Built Environment later in the year which will make recommendations intended to foster closer collaboration between the UK and the UAE in enhancing sustainability in the construction sector. We will post regular updates on this campaign on our website as these discussions progress. We are most grateful to Deloitte, Masdar City, Mott MacDonald and AESG for taking part in the panel discussion.
